A small Alfama room behind the cathedral
Casa Lundum — the house also performs under its Portuguese name, Lisboa Menina e Moça — sits on Travessa do Almargem, a lane running between Pátio Afonso de Albuquerque and the Cruzes da Sé, about three minutes on foot from Lisbon's cathedral. It is in Santiago, the oldest corner of Alfama, and the walk there is the kind of narrow cobbled climb people come to Alfama for.
The format is a concert, not a dinner. You sit in a small room — the house caps it at around 60 people — and hear roughly an hour of Fado from a rotating group of singers: Mário Lundum himself, Filipa Vieira, Sara Paixão, Gustavo and Adriano Luís Pina, accompanied on Portuguese guitar by António Duarte Martins. Between the songs the host talks, in English, about where a particular Fado comes from and why it matters to Lisbon. A glass of port wine is included.
