What makes this show different

  • 1Pick between two settings at booking: Sé (cellar room by the medieval walls) or Baixa (a small downtown tavern).
  • 2Glass of port wine or Moscatel included with every ticket.
  • 3Professional male and female fadistas — two singers in every set.
  • 4Musicians give short explanations of the songs in English and Portuguese — useful for first-timers.

Two small rooms, one consistent Fado set

Fado & Fado is run by a Lisbon company that operates two concert rooms a few minutes apart: one in a stone cellar near the medieval walls of the Sé cathedral, the other in a small tavern in Baixa. The booking page lets you pick which one you want; the format is otherwise the same.

Each set runs about an hour and features a male and a female fadista, accompanied by Portuguese guitar and viola. Between songs, the musicians explain in English and Portuguese what the lyrics are about and how the instruments work — a real help if this is your first Fado night. A glass of port wine or Moscatel is included.

The acoustics in both rooms are very good — stone walls and low ceilings carry the unamplified voices well. The official venue website is fadoefado.com.

This show was fantastic! The guitarists and the two singers were warm, welcoming, and very talented. The acoustics in the cellar room across from the San Antonio church were amazing. The wine was a perfect compliment to the performance.

Thank you for a brief and heartfelt introduction to Fado music in a magical ambiente. It was a good balance of female, male voices and instrumental pieces.

Heidi · Austria · June 2026

Lovely room and singers. I like that it wasn’t disturbed by a dinner — just wine and listening to the beautiful music in a great cave-like room with good acoustics.

FAQ

Common questions

Should I pick the Sé venue or the Baixa venue?
Both have the same show and the same musicians. The Sé venue is a stone cellar near the medieval walls and feels more atmospheric. The Baixa venue is a small downtown tavern, easier to combine with shopping or sightseeing in central Lisbon. Pick at the checkout step.
Do I need to speak Portuguese to enjoy the show?
No. The musicians give short introductions in English between songs, explaining what each lyric is about. Most international visitors say the language barrier doesn’t get in the way of the emotion.
How do I get there?
The Sé venue is by Lisbon Cathedral — tram 28 stops 50 metres away. The Baixa venue is 3 minutes from the Baixa-Chiado metro station and from Praça do Comércio. Both are walkable from Alfama.
Is dinner included?
No — just a glass of port wine or Moscatel. There are good restaurants right next door at both venues if you want dinner before or after.
Can I cancel my ticket?
Both GetYourGuide and Tiqets typically allow free cancellation up to 24 hours before the show. The exact policy appears at the checkout step on each platform — please double-check before completing the booking.
Which platform should I book on — GetYourGuide or Tiqets?
Either is fine. GetYourGuide has the larger review pool for this venue; Tiqets is direct and clean. Prices are the same on both. Pick whichever account you already have.
