What makes this show different
- 1Pick one of three Casa do Fado venues at booking: under the 16th-century São João Novo church, near the Sé in a former luthier workshop, or in a 19th-century Ribeira cellar.
- 2Glass of port wine included with every ticket — Tawny or White.
- 3About 12 fados and 2 instrumental Portuguese-guitar pieces across the hour.
- 4All three rooms have heritage acoustics — stone walls, low ceilings, no microphones needed.
Three historic Porto rooms, one consistent show
A Casa do Fado is run by a Porto-based company that programmes the same hour-long Fado concert in three different historic rooms in the old city. The most photographed is beneath the 16th-century São João Novo church, near the river; the second is a former luthier workshop close to the Sé cathedral; the third is a 19th-century stone cellar in Ribeira.
Each performance is roughly an hour long and follows the same structure: a male or female fadista with Portuguese guitar and classical guitar, performing about twelve fados and two instrumental pieces. A glass of port wine is included — Tawny or White. Between songs, the musicians explain in English what each lyric is about.
You can pick which of the three venues you want at the booking step, depending on which neighbourhood works for your evening. The official venue website is oportofado.com.

A great introduction to Fado — its music, history and instruments — in charming surroundings. Many thanks to all three.

Joanne · United Kingdom · May 2026Absolutely incredible experience. Such a special hidden venue with incredible acoustics for the music. Such passion and beautiful cultural experiences. A must-do if you are in Porto.
Natalie · United States · May 2026The evening was a beautiful celebration of Fado and Portuguese culture in an intimate and historically interesting setting. The acoustics of the space provided a wonderful match to the rich sound of very talented musicians.
Katie · United States · March 2026A small heads-up before you book
- The three rooms are atmospheric but tightly packed and not always well ventilated — in hot months, the Ribeira and São João Novo cellars get warm.
- Seating is unallocated and the rooms are small. Arriving 10–15 minutes early gets you a better seat and time to enjoy the port wine before the show.
- Pick the venue carefully — São João Novo and Ribeira are by the river (uphill walk back), Sé is closer to the centre. Tram 22 helps get back up from Ribeira after the show.
